Helping Restore Kelp Forests

Restore a kelp forest

In this age of environmental consciousness, organisations like Mossy Earth are taking bold steps to restore nature and combat climate change. Co-founded by Bodyboard Holidays Trip Leader Matt Davies, Mossy Earth and its team are actively engaged in a wide array of projects aimed at reviving wild ecosystems, preserving wildlife and biodiversity, and making a significant impact in the fight against climate change.

Since its inception in 2017, Mossy Earth has been at the forefront of environmental restoration, and Bodyboard-Holidays are proud to stand alongside them in their cause. Our collaboration involves monthly tree planting, with Mossy Earth planting 10 trees on our behalf while we contribute to their rewilding projects. Furthermore, for every guest that joins us on our trips, we plant a tree, furthering our commitment to sustainability.

One particularly remarkable project Mossy Earth is currently working on is the restoration of kelp forests in the ocean. These underwater wonders are vital ecosystems that support biodiversity, improve water quality, and play a pivotal role in carbon sequestration. Despite their significance in mitigating climate change and sustaining marine life, the decline of kelp forests from coastlines worldwide has been overlooked amidst the focus on deforestation on land.

Mossy Earth has joined forces with SeaForester, a visionary initiative striving to reverse the alarming disappearance of seaweed forests globally. Together, their mission is to protect the oceans’ critical role in carbon sequestration, maintaining fish stocks, and safeguarding the planet’s wellbeing. In Portugal, they have undertaken a groundbreaking project and they are now looking to scale up their kelp forest restoration program, building on successful trials conducted off the Portuguese coast.

If you share our passion for combating climate change and aiding rewilding efforts, we encourage you to explore the world of Mossy Earth and its diverse range of impactful projects. From tree planting initiatives to the restoration of vital marine habitats, each step contributes to a more sustainable future.
