At The Wave, you get to ride a consistent wave time and time again. That gives you room to work on your take-off, line, speed and turns, then try a small change on your very next wave. You do not need to arrive with a polished wave-pool technique. We’ll help you improve from wherever you are now.
We’ve designed the coaching to support you from start to finish. Before your session, we’ll explain how the pool works, what to expect and help you set a goal. Once you’re in the water, a coach at the take-off helps you catch your waves. A photographer in the water captures the action, while a videographer films your rides from land. Our land photographer radios observations to the coach at the pool edge, who calmly talks you through what to try on your next wave. That immediate feedback gives you a chance to make changes while the ride is still fresh. Afterwards, we’ll watch the footage together and break down your rides. Add a supportive group of ladies sharing the day and it becomes a brilliant place to learn.

We’ll start with a friendly briefing, explain how the pool works and agree on something you would like to work on.
You’ll be part of the wider Women + Waves gathering, alongside other ladies who are there to surf and bodyboard. The Saturday morning session is dedicated to bodyboarding. In the later Saturday session and on Sunday afternoon, bodyboarders share the pool with ladies who surf. The Bodyboard Holidays team will coach our bodyboarders throughout. We’ll make the introductions, show you where to go and help you settle in. You’ll have plenty of chances to meet other ladies who love riding waves.

If you are new to The Wave and can paddle out on a bodyboard, you are welcome. The Intermediate wave is a friendly green wave with a nice level of power. It gives you time to practise catching it, finding your line and making turns. You do not need to think of yourself as an “intermediate” rider to enjoy it, especially with our coaches in the water to help.
The Advanced wave steps things up slightly. It has more shape for practising manoeuvres and the chance to find a tube ride. It suits riders who want to try steeper sections, but you do not need to have mastered them already. Tell us where you are at and we’ll help you choose the right session.
Wave-pool consistency lets you focus on the details: how to catch the wave, how to generate speed and what to do with the section in front of you. Between sessions, you can watch other riders, compare notes and get to know the ladies sharing the weekend with you. It’s a supportive, sociable place to enjoy your time in the water.
Join us for one coached session or build a full weekend around the pool. There are three bodyboard sessions across Saturday and Sunday, plus time to meet the wider group at the Saturday evening social. Choose the wave and the pace that suit you, and we’ll help with the rest.
Accommodation is not included in the session price, so you can choose what works best for you. There are several places to stay within about a 10-minute drive of The Wave, including Mollie’s Motel, Travelodge Bristol Abbey Wood and Aztec Hotel and Spa. Ask us about the Aztec discount code.
For a stay right beside the venue, The Camp at The Wave offers glamping in safari tents. Availability and prices vary, so book your stay separately and check the latest details with each provider.
Rosita Sanchez, Lisa Cutts, Amy Nutbrown and James Nutbrown are part of the Bodyboard Holidays team bringing this weekend to life. They’ll help you feel at home at The Wave and work on your riding at a pace that suits you. Sally Howells, who first joined us as a guest, will photograph the action. Our sister company, Women + Waves, brings the wider group of ladies together for the surf sessions and social. They run regular events at The Wave and know how to make newcomers feel welcome.

Lisa is a Bodyboard Holidays trip leader and coach who helped deliver our first all-ladies session at The Wave. A former European champion, she brings a welcoming, practical approach to the pool and helps each rider find the next step in their riding. Lisa also works on our Newquay weekends, the Secret Morocco ladies’ trip, and trips to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and El Salvador.

Amy is part of the Bodyboard Holidays team for this weekend. She also works on our Portugal trips and ladies’ weekends in Newquay. She’ll help you find your confidence in the pool, offer useful feedback and make you feel part of the group.

Rosita is a key part of the Bodyboard Holidays coaching team and helped deliver our first all-ladies bodyboard session at The Wave. She knows the value of calm, well-paced coaching and will be there to help you work towards your goals.

James is part of the Bodyboard Holidays coaching team at The Wave, on our Portugal trips and at coaching weekends in Newquay. He’ll help riders with the practical details of the session and give clear feedback they can use on their next wave.

Sally first joined us at The Wave as a guest and knows the excitement of riding the pool for herself. A wave pool addict, she’s back with the team as our photographer, ready to capture your rides and the moments in between. Her images will help us talk through your waves in the feedback session and give you something to share and look back on after the weekend.
What People Say
My beginner friends and I were lucky enough to be placed with the wonderful Amy and Rosita. They were so full of knowledge, patience and encouragement. Even with lots of different abilities in our smaller group, not once did I feel silly or intimidated. There’s no pressure to keep up with anyone else — everyone is just out there doing their own thing and living their best life.

What People Say
As pretty much a beginner at bodyboarding, I attended the weekend with 3 friends. We were in the very capable and patient hands of Amy and Rosita who created such a welcoming and safe environment for us all to feel able to ask questions, face our fears and improve our bodyboarding. We absolutely loved every minute and are already planning when we can go back.

Each booking includes one coached bodyboard session at The Wave with the Bodyboard Holidays team. We’re with you before, during and after your time in the pool: a briefing and personal goal setting, help at the take-off, feedback after each ride, photographs from the water and pier, then a review of your rides afterwards. You are welcome to book more than one session if you want extra time to practise.
Accommodation, food and equipment hire are separate. You’ll find the practical information for planning your visit below.
We’ll start with a briefing on the best ways to catch and ride The Wave, including tips our instructors have picked up from their own time in the pool. During your session, a Bodyboard Holidays coach will be at the take-off to help you catch waves. A photographer in the water and another on the pier capture your rides. After each wave, you’ll get feedback to help you enjoy and improve your next ride. Afterwards, we’ll go through the footage together and give you clear things to work on in future.
A photographer in the water captures you as you ride past, while our photographer on the pier records each ride from start to finish. Photos and video from both angles show your position, line and timing, making the coaching feedback easier to put into practice. You’ll also have images to share with friends and family.
Choose from three ladies sessions across the weekend. Saturday at 9am is a dedicated Advanced bodyboard session on the left wave. Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 2pm are Intermediate sessions on the right wave, with ladies who bodyboard and ladies who surf sharing the pool. In every session, the Bodyboard Holidays team provides focused coaching for the bodyboarders. Each session is booked separately, so you can join us once or build your own weekend. If you’d like to book further sessions at The Wave during your visit, that aren’t coached by our team, that is also an option.
After your session, we’ll review footage of your rides together. We’ll look at the moments that matter, from take-off and positioning to line, speed and turns, then agree on what to work on next to keep your riding moving forward.
Join the wider group of ladies who surf and bodyboard for a relaxed social on Saturday evening from 7pm to 8pm. It is a chance to meet people from the other sessions, compare notes from the pool and enjoy being part of the weekend.
These photos were taken at The Wave during previous ladies’ bodyboarding events. Have a look around the venue and get a feel for the sessions.
