A Weekend of Waves, Vibes and Progress – Bristol Bodyboarders Club Takes Over Cornwall

Wave Pool club turns to the salt

There is a certain energy the Bristol Bodyboarders Club bring when they arrive in Cornwall. As soon as the group shows up, you feel the lift. People are frothing, catching up, checking the charts and eyeing the banks before we are even on the beach. This year’s coaching weekend had that same buzz from the moment everyone gathered on Friday evening.

Across the two days, the crew brought a brilliant mix of enthusiasm, questions, commitment and the kind of humour that makes the whole experience flow. From the first sunrise session to the last set on Sunday, the vibe never dipped.

Everyone Arrived Fired Up to Progress

One of the best things about working with the Bristol club is how keen they are to learn. They arrive with goals, listen hard in the briefings and throw themselves into each session. Whether it was riding wedgy peaks, refining entry angles, tightening turns or just working on positioning, everyone put the work in.

As coaches, that is exactly what you hope for. A group that are switched on, motivated and genuinely trying new things. It showed in the water too. Lines cleaned up, confidence grew and several riders ticked off personal milestones by the end of Saturday.

Everything Taken Care Of So They Could Focus on the Surfing

One of the reasons these club weekends run so smoothly is that we handle every part of the setup. That way, riders can focus entirely on the waves.

  • Accommodation
  • Structured weekend plan
  • Coaching sessions
  • In-water guidance
  • Video analysis
  • Kit advice
  • Daily logistics and briefings

All the Bristol crew had to do was turn up, enjoy themselves and squeeze every bit of learning out of each session.

An Evening of Food, Laughs and Post-Surf Stories

After a full day in the water, the group gathered for a big meal. As always with the Bristol riders, the conversation stretched from technical surf chat to wipeout stories, near misses, surprise barrels and everything in between.

By dessert, it felt like a group who surf together every week rather than a club weekend away. That sense of community is a huge part of what makes these trips special.

Sunday Served Up Challenge And the Club Rose to Meet It

Sunday brought punchier, less predictable conditions. The wedge shifted around, the lines bent strangely and reading the sets took more focus. Instead of shying away from the challenge, the Bristol crew leaned into it.

Riders adjusted quickly, communicated well, supported each other from the line up and made the most of every window. The improvement from Saturday to Sunday was clear. Deeper take offs, better timing and confident lines all round.

Most Improved Rider Award: Big Congrats to Ian Mee

One of the standout moments of the weekend came during the final debrief when we announced the Most Improved Rider Award.

This year, the winner was Ian Mee, who made huge leaps in confidence, positioning and wave selection. He earned himself a brand new NMD bodyboard, courtesy of our friends at NMD, plus bragging rights until next year’s trip.

Even better, Ian’s name is now etched onto the club’s annual trophy, which gets passed on from rider to rider each year. A proper badge of honour, and well deserved.

A Weekend Full of Stoke, Progress and Big Smiles

By Sunday afternoon, there were plenty of tired arms but even more smiles. The classic question, “When’s the next one”, came up more than once, which always tells you the weekend hit the mark.

A huge thank you to the Bristol Bodyboarders Club for another brilliant couple of days in Cornwall. You brought the energy, the effort and the laughs. We are already looking forward to welcoming you back in 2026.

Until then, keep searching for fun peaks, keep pushing your surfing and enjoy every session you get.
