Capturing The Stoke
In today’s digital age, bodyboarding is about more than just riding waves; it’s about capturing those epic moments to share with the world. From Instagram Reels to YouTube Shorts, showcasing your best bodyboarding rides has become as important as the ride itself. After all,if itโs not on film it didnโt happen, right?
Enter the filmer. Often forgotten and sometimes not credited, the videographer can be the unsung hero when it comes to bodyboarding action. These individuals spend hours perched on cliff tops, clambering across rocks, or hiding under trees to capture the golden moments for those in the water.
This is something that we take super seriously at Bodyboard-Holidays. We deliver intense staff training to ensure that during our coaching weekends and holidays, no waves are missed. We pride ourselves in capturing awesome footage of our guests to create those amazing memories as well as generate footage to review for post session coaching. Itโs a skill that takes many years to master and we work hard to get it right. By the end of a trip or weekend with our team, you will leave with an online gallery of awesome action imagery, shot from the land and from the water.
But itโs not as simple as it sounds; a high degree of skill, concentration and knowledge is needed to capture the magic. And who better to learn from than Bodyboard Holidays coach Matt “Mave” Davies? We caught up with Mave during one of our Costa Rican bodyboard escapes to get his top tips for filming your next session.
Our Top Tips For Filming Bodyboarding
Focus on Bodyboarding Photography
It’s easy to get distracted by the action in the water, but to ensure you don’t miss those crucial wave-riding moments, Mave suggests popping in some headphones. Whether it’s a podcast or your favourite tunes, it helps you stay focused and tuned into the filming.
Fuel for the Session
A long day of filming requires energy. Keep yourself hydrated and fuelled with snacks, coffee, and plenty of water. This will keep you going strong throughout the session.
Frame it Right
A tilted horizon can ruin even the best footage. Take a moment to ensure your camera is level. A straight horizon creates a more stable and visually appealing shot.
Beat the Heat
To avoid glare on your screen and stay cool, find a shady spot to set up your filming station. This will make it easier to see your shots and keep you comfortable.
