Cornwall Camp Bodyboard Coaching Weekend

June 30, 2019

By Chris Burton

We have just completed our Cornwall Camp in and enjoyed awesome waves along the north Cornish coast.

The trip was attended by 12 people from all over the world. Australian’s, Irish and English made up our hardy crew of riders!

The weekend started on Friday night with the majority of the group arriving at our yurt camp in the stunning Cornish countryside just in time to see the sun setting over the rolling hills and in to the sea.

The yurt camping experience is like no other and all of the guests had a very cosy and comfortable nights sleep. Big comfortable double beds, mod cons and heating. But within a huge tent!

We met nice and early on the Saturday morning so as not to miss the best of the clean waves on offer at the nearby north coast beach breaks.

We split the group of 12 in to two smaller crews of different abilities, then jumped in the vehicles and headed along the coast to different beaches for each group, best suited to their ability and skill set.

After a short warm up and safety briefing on the beach we enjoyed 2 hours of bodyboarding and in water coaching before heading to a cliff top restaurant for lunch and a look through the videos and photos of the session.

Looking at yourself riding your bodyboard on video or in photographs is the perfect way to improve. Along with guidance from your instructor you can make small tweaks and adjustments. With fresh knowledge and points to focus on we then enjoyed another slightly shorter bodyboarding session and tried our best to put those learnings in to practice.

Everyone did really well on the first day and absolutely everyone in the group made improvements from the earlier session.

The only thing that could have made this day better would be to have a cold beer and a hot tub to sit in to bubble away those aching arms. Which is lucky because that is precisely what we did when returning to the yurt camp.

With a hearty appetite we all headed off to a nearby restaurant and had a great evening full of chatting and laughter, not to mention great food and local wines.

Sunday morning was a slightly later start and another trip in the vehicles along the coast looking for the perfect spot for a surf. When satisfied we’d found just the right place we had another long bodyboarding session with a focus on making further improvements from the day before.

Our final video coaching session took place back at the yurt camp and was followed by prize giveaways from the weekend sponsor – QCD Boards and heart felt goodbyes from everyone that had attended the weekend. We presented a QCD board to Mark Wild from England who demonstrated huge improvements through out the weekend. Phone numbers and email addresses were swapped with new friends made and everyone left with memories of what was another fantastic coaching weekend with Bodyboard-Holidays. New crews have formed for riders to score sessions with in the future.
