Earlier this month the Cornish Bodyboard Series held their annual competition at Portreath beach. Alongside the usual Mens and Juniors divisions, this year they also ran an Amateur Junior category. Bodyboard-Holidays was stoked to be given the opportunity to sponsor the new category, and did so by donating a coaching weekend worth £219 to the winner.
After watching the men compete the day before, the youngsters were full of inspiration and eager to display their skills to the judges and the crowd. The standard of riding was great to see, with some solid manoeuvres going down in the shallow wedging conditions. Standing out from the crowd, 14 year old Penzance shredder Jack Maylam took the win.
Jack started bodyboarding just over 2 years ago, taking inspiration from the likes of PLC and the UK’s Jack Johns which shows in his riding. We look forward to welcoming him on our Newquay Coaching Weekend in November. We will help him turn it up a notch, using video coaching, the Bodyboarding Tree of Knowledge and in-water coaching we’ll see him take his riding skills to the next level.

We would like to acknowledge the work of Dan Catten, Chris Webb and the other volunteers who put their spare time into the running of the CBS events. The work they are doing for grassroots bodyboarding in and around Cornwall is inspiring and hopefully we will see an increase of events of this type spread across the rest of the UK.
